Glencoe opened with one run in the top of the first, but Jesuit matched that on an RBI single by Jake Keudell in the bottom of the first, then took the lead for good when Spencer Maxey walked, stole second, took third on Devin Higgins’ hit and scored on a double steal to make it 2-1 in the second.
The Crusaders then tacked on two runs in the third on RBI singles by Quinn McLafferty and Maxey and three in the fourth on a solo homer by Zane Yanzick and a two-run opposite-field bloop single by Page.
Glencoe — which played two games each on the tournament’s final two days and which eliminated Oregon City, Beaverton, Westview and Sunset in order – got an RBI from Ryan Degner in the first, then added its second run on an error in the third and its third on a Ryan Campbell hit.
The Crusaders then capped their day with two runs in the sixth, one on a Page sacrifice fly and the other on a Glencoe error for the final 9-3 margin.
“They played six games this tournament, two a day (yesterday and today) so we figured if everyone in our
lineup hits and keeps the pressure on them, they’d back down and they kind of did,” Page said.
“When you have run support, you just go out and throw strikes. That’s all you need to do,” Love said. “Having an offense that can back you up makes it so much easier.”
Love also went 2-for-4 at the plate, while Jacob Wark and Higgins each went 2-for-3.
Love scattered four hits among four different Glencoe players.
