BEAVERTON – It’s a whole new set of players. Yet the results remain the same.
Jesuit, with first-year starters nearly across the board, scored on its first six possessions and rolled Central Catholic 60-0 on Friday at Jesuit High School to improve to 2-0 on the season and stretch its winning streak to 28 games.
Led by Raphiel Lambert’s 203 yards, the two-time defending state champion Crusaders ran for 435 yards and eight touchdowns. Lambert found the end zone four times – all in the first half when he piled up 173 yards on 23 carries.
“I thought we came out and played hard,” said Lambert, who broke 200 yards for the second straight week. “We had a good week of practice and came out and executed our game plan.”
That included plenty of Lambert, who ran the ball 27 times behind a smaller line than Jesuit’s 2006 version, but very effective nonetheless.
“They do a good job of using their athleticism to the best of their ability,” Lambert said. “It’s up to me to make the right cuts and the right reads. I thought the O-line stepped up to the challenge. I’m liking what I’m seeing.”
For much of the game, the Rams’ offense was seeing a pack of swarming Crusaders. Jesuit held a pass-happy Central Catholic to 145 total yards of offense, continuously pressuring Rams’ starting quarterback Nick Green and forcing passes into coverage.
Running against the Crusaders was even less effective. Central Catholic went in reverse on the ground, amassing -30 yards on 19 carries, more than half by Green as he tried to evade Jesuit’s pass rush.
