AURORA – It’s been so far, so good – make that so, so good – for Southridge’s Jane So in the Metro League girls golf race.
So, a junior, won her third straight Metro tournament on Tuesday at Langdon Farms Golf Course, scoring 68 points in the league’s modified Stableford scoring system to outpace Jesuit senior Sarah Arnold (65 pts.) and Crusader junior Madeline Jarrett (63 pts.).
“Jane was outstanding and played all facets well,” said Skyhawk coach Pat Buckhalter, mentioning that So even chipped in for birdie on the second hole. “She really understands how to minimize mistakes and to not make mistakes that take her out of a hole.”
Her efforts, along with those of Kaohi Loo (48 pts.), Stephanie Shipley (44), Allison Ahl (40) and Rebecca Reid (25) lifted the Skyhawks to a team total of 200 points and a third straight second-place finish behind Jesuit.
“Getting to 200 points again as a team is so much fun for all the girls,” Buckhalter said. “We are still about 35 to 40 points behind a great Jesuit team, but we are doing a great job ourselves.”
The Crusaders, meanwhile, just kept the foot to the accelerator and stretched their league points lead to six points over Southridge.
Besides Arnold and Jarrett’s success, Julie Schroeder came through with 57 points, Ceci Estravis added 48 more and Lauren Menashe had 41.
“Sarah had a really good score,” said Jesuit coach Katy Williams, noting that Arnold’s total came on a 78-stroke day (So’s stroke total was 75). “And (Jarrett) had a personal best score too. She’s really started to get her golfing legs under her after basketball.”
Christina Corona led third-place Beaverton (157 pts.) with 45. Kelsey Bledsoe paced fourth-place Sunset (126 pts.) with 51. Samantha Chin led Westview with 32 and Aften Pankiewicz topped Aloha with 33.
