A 56-year-old Aloha woman was arrested Tuesday evening after she slammed her Dodge Intrepid into the back of another vehicle on Southwest Tualatin Valley Highway, injuring herself and the other driver.
Washington County sheriff’s deputies charged Shawn Gronlund with fourth-degree assault and driving under the influence of intoxicants. She was issued a citation to appear in court at a later date because she was transported to Providence St. Vincent Medical Center for treatment of her non-life-threatening injuries.
At 5:46 p.m., deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Tualatin Valley Highway and Southwest 198th Avenue.
Upon arrival, they learned Gronlund had rear-ended a 1998 Volkswagen Rabbit stopped at the light, injuring its 50-year-old driver, who was also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“Deputies investigating the crash determined that Mrs. Gronlund had been drinking alcohol and was too impaired to be driving,” said Sgt. Dave Thompson, sheriff’s office spokesman. “As we enter into the holiday season, deputies will be out in force concentrating on arresting DUII drivers.”
Grants from the Oregon State Sheriff’s Association, Oregon Department of Transportation and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will allow several deputies to work overtime shifts, specifically concentrating on DUII drivers on and around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
