St. Vincent named a top cardiac hospital

For the third time, Providence St. Vincent Medical Center has been named one of the nation’s top 100 hospitals in cardiovascular care by the business research firm Thomson Reuters. Providence St. Vincent Medical Center is the only hospital in Oregon to receive this prestigious recognition this year.

Thomson Reuters, in its “100 Top Hospitals: Cardiovascular Benchmarks” study, examined the performances of cardiac programs in nearly 1,000 hospitals. Its outcomes analysis found that the 100 top hospitals have lower mortality rates for heart attack, heart failure and bypass surgery patients, fewer post-operative complications, and shorter hospital stays.

“Providence Heart and Vascular Institute is known around the world for the care we offer our patients and for the groundbreaking clinical trials we take part in,” said Kristy Wayson, assistant administrator and executive director, Providence Heart and Vascular Institute. “Heart patients coming to Providence St. Vincent can rest assured they are receiving top-notch care.”

Earlier this year, St. Vincent was the only hospital in Oregon to make Thomson Reuters’ overall list of “100 Top Hospitals.”
