Beaverton is one of the best places in the nation to raise children, according to BusinessWeek.
The magazine’s fourth annual survey of the Best Places to Raise Your Kids found that the Washington County suburb of about 87,000 people has “a park located within a half-mile of every resident, a 25-mile network of bike paths, nearby ski slopes, beaches, and shopping areas. The highly regarded public and private schools send students to top-ranked universities.”
Oregon runners-up in the magazine’s rankings were Corvallis and Eugene.
The magazine worked with OnBoard Informatics, a New York provider of real estate analysis, to select a town and two runners-up for each of the 50 states. Selections were limited to towns that have at least 45,000 residents and a median income of between $40,000 and $125,000.
The criteria focused on school performance, number of schools, household expenditures, crime rates, air quality, job growth, family income, museums, parks, theaters, other amenities and diversity.
What was the best town in America to raise your children? According to the survey, it was Tinley Park, Ill., a small town 25 miles southwest of Chicago.
Tinley Park is about an hour north of last year’s winner, Mount Prospect, Ill.
