FROM FIELD TO FUN — Construction crews broke ground last week on what will soon become Big Al’s, a 66,000-square-foot bowling and game complex on Barrows Road.

Right now it’s just a 20-acre dirt field at the intersection of Barrows Road and Horizon Boulevard, but in about a year it is expected to be a thriving commercial development.
A 66,000-square-foot, two-story entertainment emporium – Big Al’s – broke ground last week on six acres of the in-development Progress Ridge TownSquare. The TownSquare straddles the city lines of Beaverton and Tigard between the Bull Mountain and Murray Hill neighborhoods.
Big Al’s is planned to be completed by August 2010 and will be owned and operated by the Kirkwood family from Vancouver. It will be the second such facility the family has created and they hope that the new Big Al’s will be just as big a success as the original Vancouver establishment.
If success can be based on size, Big Al’s should do just fine.
The family-friendly complex will feature 42 bowling lanes, a 6,000-square-foot arcade, a sports bar made to resemble a stadium, nearly 100 high-definition televisions, private party rooms, pool tables, and a virtual golf and gaming center.
