An outpouring of support is being expressed from the family and friends of the two Beaverton pilots who died last week in a plane crash over Arizona.

The two men, Scott Resnick, 39, and Daylon Harrington, 25, didn’t know each other well, having only briefly met in aviation circles, but stories from their loved ones show two lives that were alike in a love of Christ and flying.

Resnick and Harrington took off from Hillsboro on May 22 in a Lancair IV experimental, kit airplane. Resnick, who was piloting, was traveling to attend his Uncle’s funeral in Arizona, and Harrington was looking to acquire additional air miles.

But they never made it to their destination. The National Transportation Safety Board says the crash is still under investigation and will be for some time. What is known is that something went wrong on the flight and both men died about 30 miles northwest of Prescott, Ariz.

As their families and friends struggle with the untimely deaths, they savor the good that both men did in their lives — from bringing joy to those close to them, to traveling across the world to benefit the less fortunate.

A fearless adventurer

Scott Resnick loved to give.

From traveling to Mexico every summer for the last four years to build houses, to being a fix-it man for locals in need, the shop foreman at Northwest Aircraft Maintenance in Hillsboro devoted his life to service.

His wife of nearly 13 years, Holly, says that when her husband became a Christian at 21, he knew that he would spend the rest of his life serving other people.

She remembers one time Scott was driving and saw a man’s car smoking. After the car broke down on the road, Scott approached the driver and decided to give him his own car.

Holly said they both came home and Scott came inside and told her he was looking for the title to pass along. The appreciative man drove away and years later she said, her children saw the same man still driving the car.

Scott was always like this, she said.

Having been passionate about flying since a young age, Scott was able to later combine this desire to serve with his airplane expertise as he performed missionary work overseas. He would fly to Brazil and Peru and fix disabled airplanes that would deliver medical supplies.

Scott had the most incredible work ethic, Holly said. On top of his foreman job, he was a private pilot and worked in sales and acquisitions of airplanes. And even though he kept very busy, he always found time for the family.

After a long day at work, Scott would take Holly and their four children out and pitch baseballs to them.

“I’ve never seen a dad be more hands-on, and more loving and patient,” she said.

Even though he worked so hard, friends say, Scott still found time to enjoy life. He loved snowboarding, windsurfing, biking and skateboarding. Anything to get outside and experience life.
