A 15-year-old theater student at Beaverton’s Arts and Communication Magnet Academy was struck and killed by a TriMet bus late Monday afternoon.
Austin Michael Miller, a sophomore in his second year at the magnet school, was riding his bike along Southwest Farmington Road just west of Murray Boulevard at about 4:45 p.m. when he was hit.
As the Traffic Division of the Beaverton Police Department continues its investigation into the crash, the Beaverton School District is rallying around those who knew Miller.
“He was a talented film student and known as a delightful young man,” said Maureen Wheeler, a spokeswoman for the school district.
Three counselors are working with students and staff today offering activities and talking to them about ways to share their memories of Miller.
“I spoke with Austin’s mom this morning and expressed our sorrow at his loss,” Wheeler said. “We also offered our support of anything we can do as they move forward.”
A memorial service is planned at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Rolling Hills Community Church, 3550 S.W. Borland Road, Tualatin.
