A memorial service for a 12-year-old Conestoga Middle School student who died earlier this month will be held at the school on Friday at 3:45 p.m.
Vina Trinh, a seventh-grader at the school, died Jan. 12 after a rare reaction to viral meningeal encephalitis.
Meanwhile, a walkathon, known as Vina’s Victory over Viruses Walk and Fair, will be held in memory of Trinh on March 15.
“We’re trying to have a positive outcome to this tragedy,” said Joe Zelk, Trinh’s stepfather.
To learn more about the walkathon go to www.vvvfoundation.org or to view memories of Vina, visit www.freewebs.com/vinaweloveyou/index.htm
Zelk said the March event will focus on kicking off the family’s non-profit foundation to promote the need for research on treatments of viral infections as well as creating public awareness about such infections and encouraging the use of more vaccinations.
