ADVERTISEMENTS
Things are a little different around here this week.
The Valley Times flag has changed. And, the newspaper that has served Beaverton for a half-century, is getting new leadership.
The newspaper has added the company motto: Your Town. Your Paper. We’ve taken that idea seriously all these years. It will become more of a driving force in the next few months as Pamplin Media Group promotes the Valley Times and works to earn the trust of new subscribers.
Now for the staff changes. Valley Times Associate Editor Kevin L. Harden, who has edited and designed this newspaper for seven years, is taking a new job in a couple of weeks when he becomes Web editor for the Pamplin Media Group.
Harden, 52, a graduate of the University of Oregon School of Journalism, will take over the company’s Localnewsdaily.com Web site, providing late-breaking online news and features.
To take his place, company President Steve Clark and Valley Times Associate Publisher Kevin Hohnbaum have hired Christina Lent and Jessie Kirk as co-news editors.
Lent, 31, is a 1998 graduate of Humboldt State University with degrees in journalism and leadership studies. She worked at the Bozeman Daily Chronicle in Montana before beginning her career with Community Newspapers in April 2000.
Since then, she has served as the Valley Times’ lead reporter.
Lent lives in South Beaverton with her husband, Steven.
Kirk, 27, is a 2004 graduate of the University of Oregon with degrees in journalism and Spanish. She began her career with Community Newspapers in 2005 as the People section editor for the Times newspapers and most recently served as the editor in chief of the Southwest Community Connection Newspaper in Southwest Portland.
Kirk lives in Milwaukie with her husband, Josh.
