Several women on the Nike campus have reported similar, peculiar sexual assaults in the past month.
Washington County sheriff’s deputies have received four reports of a man on a bicycle who has been grabbing women’s buttocks as they walked or jogged on or around the Nike World Campus, at Southwest Murray Boulevard and Jenkins Road.
“We’re talking about really aggressive behavior,” said Sgt. David Thompson, sheriff’s office spokesman. “When he slapped one woman, he almost knocked her down.”
Thompson said investigators are “pretty confident” the same man assaulted all four women.
In each case the man continued to ride past the victim at a normal speed. He did not speed up and did not look back. In one case the suspect later rode past the victim in the opposite direction.
Sheriff’s deputies have been conducting surveillance at the Nike campus for several days, but have not seen the suspect and have not had any other assaults reported.
“Nike’s been very cooperative,” Thompson said. “Their security force is very good. They’re putting out some information to their employees about what to watch for and they are being proactive about keeping their people safe.”
Nike security officers told deputies about the first incident that involved a 43-year-old woman who said a man on a bicycle grabbed her buttocks as she was jogging at about 11 p.m. around the campus on June 14. She told deputies the man looked like a Hispanic male about 20 to 30 years old. She also reported that he was wearing a white sweatshirt with the hood up.
The next report came on July 12, just after 3 p.m., when a 54-year-old woman said she was pushing a stroller down the street when a man riding a bicycle came up behind her and slapped her buttocks. The woman was walking near Southwest Meadow Drive and Walton Street, a block from the Nike campus. She also described the suspect as a Hispanic man wearing a white, hooded sweatshirt.
She said the man had short, black hair with gel in it. She described him as having a thin build and being of medium height.
